Since Yankuba (Eric) is leaving we decided to get Asobes (matching outfits). Don’t be too weirded out. Eric’s doesn’t really match ours and it’s something they do for a special occasions. We went with some of our friends to pick out fabric and talk to the tailor. Lori and I got a custom made dress for the equivalent of $7, Eric’s was about $17. But like we told him, he bought a suit when we just bought a Sunday dress.
We have a new sister! Our landlords wife had her baby on Feb 18. She is a tiny little girl named Mariama. And our outfits were ready just in time for the naming ceremony.

This was a mis-shot but you can see the end result of the skin dye from the earlier post

Wowsers, I miss Gambia even more now :) Your asobes look smashing! Where did you get them made? I had quite the adventures in Brikama with Aunta getting my "traveling outfit" sewn...
I had no idea Filijie was pregnant, but I have just have a feeling Mariama looks like the female version of Sidifo... beautiful, huge eyes.
And, boy howdy, gate-man Jim looks like such a punk! Give that kid a huge kiss for me :)
Let Eric know that I'll make sure to have a warm coat/blankets waiting at the airport for him next week. If he wants any sorts of special foods, he can email me and let me know. I figured anything non-rice, and non-fish would taste delicious, but... Oh, and somewhere along the way, I lost all the contact info for people in Gambia (Ceclia's email, Filijie and Momise's mobile numbers, etc), so I could try to be a better toubab if Eric had those when he came back... I suppose I could try to email him, too, about this stuff, instead of just sending messages through your blog :)
By the way, what are yours and Lori's African names?
Greet Jarjukunda and Mennokunda for me!

I almost didn't see the baby, there is so much color in the photo, I didn't see the little face peeking out. She looks tiny. How big is she, or do you have no way of measuring her size and weight? Mom
